WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #A2A2A2; text-align:justify]Ever since breaking up with Helena, Hayden had been out basically every night and tonight was no exception. It was almost Spring Break and he was just gearing up for it. He didn’t see a problem in putting off the history essay that was due Friday. If worst came to worst he would just get an extension. Say he was emotionally traumatized and needed more time. Or just play the do you know who I am card. That one had always worked even before this whole mess. Everything that was going on just made it even easier to get out of things. The teachers felt bad for the top boy who lost his little sister and more recently almost lost his younger brother. Plus they knew that if he ever complained to his father it might be their job so Hayden got away with everything. It really was good to be king.
Just as he passed the threshold of his door Hayden felt his phone buzz. He looked at the id on the screen of the phone to see the name Jake blaze across the little green strip on his iPhone screen. He slid the thing over, putting in his passcode, and opening the message. Before he even got to the end of the message his course of where his feet were taking him changed. He would not be going out tonight. Well at least not the out he had planned on. He was going to the tunnels to drink with Jake because from the sounds of it his best friend needed it.
Hayden reached the tunnels, easily sneaking in and unlocking the door. He knew the way around these tunnels like that back of his hand easily maneuvered his way to the meeting room. He spotted Jake in his usual spot and made his way to where he usually sat, holding up a big bottle of whiskey. ‘Felt like you could use this from the sounds of it.’ [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:8px; line-height:10px; letter-spacing:3px; color: #8B8B8B; text-align:justify;]- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'M BREAKING IN, SHAPING UP, THIS IS THE APOCALYPSE. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: 101010; border: #262626 solid 10px; width: 515px; padding: 5 5 5 5px;]As much as Lily had pretended that she was okay after they had spoken about Oxford, he knew that she wasn’t. There was little she could actually hide from Jake now, although he didn’t push her to admit that she really wasn’t happy, he knew it. He hadn’t expected her to be either, he had known it would be hard but it had been necessary, even if it killed him a little inside just to do it. They needed this, long distance wouldn’t be any good for their relationship and he didn’t want that to ruin them. And he didn’t want to stop her from being happy over in England, if he could help it. She didn’t want to stay, and he couldn’t leave, so while they were both at different corners of the world then this was how it was going to have to be.
She’d gone to see Beth, despite having said she didn’t want to leave the room all day, and he had let her, knowing that she probably wanted to go talk to her best friend about it. And it hadn’t taken him long before he had decided that he didn’t want to stare at the walls of his dorm room until she got back, if she even ended up coming back to his dormitory that night, so he had texted Hayden and made his way down to the tunnels, knowing that his best friend would probably go there since he’d asked him to, or if not, he’d just sit down there for a while and drink by himself.
It wasn’t too long after he had been sitting down there, in his usual seat, when he heard someone’s approach, figuring that it was Hayden, although if it was anyone else it wouldn’t take him long to get rid of them. There weren’t many that knew about here that wanted to mess with him, even if they were other legacies, bar a few exceptions like Bruce and Chase, but right now he wouldn’t have cared if it were either of them. “You were right,” he said dryly, leaning back in his chair and looking at his friend as he brandished the bottle of whisky he was carrying in his direction. “She didn’t take it well. Well, she pretended to, but I know she didn’t.” - - - - - - - - - - 'cause i won't let you burn out tonight, let's just stay here, don't breathe, ignite, and you be the reason, i'll be the rhyme, we've both got way too much ahead to worry bout what we've left behind, so you keep the beat, we'll stay on time, and fill the pages with just how both our worlds collide, when i'm left in your eyes |

WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #A2A2A2; text-align:justify]Hayden moved and took a seat letting his friend take the bottle. Neither of them had really ever been good about talking about their feelings, but they did know how to drink until the other felt better. It was just how the operated. Ever since they knew what alcohol was really. It was probably seventh grade the first time they had broken into one of their parents’ wine cellars and got way too drunk for their own good. Now they at least got the good stuff and weren’t as easily drunken as they were then. Then again it had been six years since that first time and a lot of alcohol between then and now.
‘She go off to Beth?’ Hayden could only assume that Lily had run off to Beth who was her best friend just like Jake had come to him. It was just the way the world worked. You have a problem, you go to your best friend. Although he figured the two sets of best friends were going to have totally different conversations. ‘Alcohol will make it better for now at least.’ Hayden took the bottle back from his friend and took a swig, letting the liquid burn down his throat. ‘And I’m sure she’ll be fine. She’s Lily after all.’ He had seen the girl come back from worse. Worse being almost killed by a psychopath. If she could get through that he was sure that she could get through a small break up with Jake. It was just hard, he’d tried to explain why as best as he could but he didn’t think it helped much. Hopefully Beth would be able to calm her down better than he had, as much as she had been faking that she was okay to him. He understood why she was so upset about it, he really did, but there was only so much that he could do to reassure her that it wasn’t permanent, and it wasn’t going to ruin anything. He just wanted to give them both a chance in college, he felt like he would just be holding her back if they tried it long distance for however long it took.
He took a swig of alcohol from the bottle, holding it over to Hayden as he started speaking and reaching for it himself. “I won’t be saying that if I have a hangover in the morning,” he replied, leaning back in his seat again. And he nodded slightly when Hayden said that she would be fine, letting out a deep breath. “Maybe. I don’t know. Right now I’m more worried about how she’s reacting now. I just feel like her reaction is going to go to the extreme until she calms down,” he said. It wasn’t like he didn’t know her well enough already to know what her reactions could be like. Or maybe it was just because he was used to being the calm, rational one in these sorts of situations, with anyone he spoke to. It was what he always had to do, so it was what he was used to. and you be the reason, i'll be the rhyme you needed something you could hold with your hands, something rebellious that you don't understand, something that you were sure we'd never remand, won't you please clue me in on the plan, because i won't let you burn out tonight, let's just stay here, don't breathe, ignite |

WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #A2A2A2; text-align:justify]Hayden nodded a bit listening to his friend. It only made sense that Lily would be running to her best friend. It’s what most girls did when they were in a situation that they didn’t like. And Lily was no exception. Although Hayden really couldn’t talk. Whenever something had gone wrong in the past Jake and Hayden would call each other up. The difference was though that their way of dealing with things was drinking until they really couldn’t remember what had been wrong in the first place. He imagined that Lily was probably yelling and pacing while him and Jake sat in the tunnels and drank. He could never imagine Lily crying ever so he figured it was just a bunch of yelling that was going on.
Hayden took the bottle again and took a swig before passing it back to Jake. It was second nature to them now. If anyone had watched them the first time they had done this ritual it would be laughable. They drank far too much too fast. They greedily took swigs from the bottle. And they ended up sloshing alcohol out of the bottle as they passed it back and forth in their drunken state. Now though it came easily to them. Talk, drink, pass and repeat. Easy as that. ‘I think this time a hangover will be worth it.’ This really was one of those times that drinking till they passed out might be the best idea. ‘Would she really overreact badly?’ Hayden in no way knew Lily as well as Jake knew her, but from what he had seen she seemed more calm and collected than most girls. Sure he had seen his best friend and her get in a fight bad enough that they both left the country, but that was a different case. She couldn’t react too badly this time when all Jake was trying to do was help them both, could she? Not sure I want any more headaches right now though,” Jake answered, taking the bottle back from Hayden after the other male took a swig, bringing it back up to his own lips for another after he had taken it from him. This whole year had been one, giant headache really. Of course, there had been some good points, but most of it had just been like living in a virtual hell. Would they get a break any time soon? Probably not, all things considering. They had spring break coming up but that would only offer a temporary relief, and everything would still be there in their minds, and it wasn’t anything that was exactly easy to shake, even for a week.
He held the bottle back over towards Hayden, looking over at him and raising his eyebrows slightly. “It’s Lily, who knows how she’s going to react,” he replied simply. He knew his girlfriend was hardly close to predictable, but after everything that he knew about her and the few incidents that they’d had since they had started seeing each other, he knew that it would really be a kind of Russian roulette of how she was going to react to it, although his gut instinct was leaning more towards her definitely not taking it well, even if she didn’t yell and scream and rage at him directly over it. and maybe it was just easier for him to see because he’d always needed to be the rational one, despite his shithead moments, and he’d always been the one who’d had to think about how other people were going to react or what they would do before they had even done it.
“But I need to stay. I can’t leave Tiggy and Spence here by themselves if we haven’t sorted out all of this… business… and I can’t exactly learn dad’s business in a different country,” he said, moving to sit with his feet propped up on the table they’d had brought into the room. To be fair, he wasn’t even sure why Lily wanted to go back to England so badly, she’d already told him enough times how much she hated being close to her parents, and he knew it hadn’t been good for her back there. She could have just as easily stayed here, but she wasn’t. He had to stay, and he couldn’t just jump and leave when she wanted him to, it wasn’t fair on him. Hell, he wasn’t even expecting her to stay here for him, he wasn’t going to make her feel like she had to, it was her choice. and you be the reason, i'll be the rhyme you needed something you could hold with your hands, something rebellious that you don't understand, something that you were sure we'd never remand, won't you please clue me in on the plan, because i won't let you burn out tonight, let's just stay here, don't breathe, ignite |

WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #A2A2A2; text-align:justify]Hayden nodded a little. They all really had been through hell that year. And they all had had more headaches than they had asked for. Either because of all the alcohol they had drank from trying to forget or just because of things going on. ‘Then don’t drink enough to get hungover.’ That seemed simple enough. Sure this situation required drinking, but it didn’t mean they had to get totally trashed. Just buzzed enough to help Jake feel better. That was all.
‘Ya true. Girl can be like a ticking time bomb,’ he said taking the bottle from Jake and taking another sip. He thought back on everything his friend had gone through with Lily over the year. Really the girl was as predictable as the wind. You never knew which was she was going to blow. But from how Lily had reacted in other situations this year he could only predict bad. At least to Hayden, Lily had become a different girl after her accident. And Jake had become different with all the stress. He probably seemed different to other people too, but he just didn’t see that. That being said, he just wanted his best friend to be happy and well if that was not dating Lily next year then that was what he should do.
He nodded once more thinking on what Jake said. ‘Ya I understand what you mean. It was a hard decision to leave, but after talking with my parents they convinced me to go.’ Hayden had highly considered staying in Easton after everything happened. Stick around, help out with Wyatt, but his parents had told him that he needed to go. Not that they didn’t want him there but apparently they knew something he didn’t. And he would have when he came back to actually get his law degree to apprentice his dad. It was different than what Jake had to do. Jake had to actually learn a business which was why it made more sense for him to stay. How often does that end up happening when we say we won’t, though?” Jake answered, chuckling slightly. Okay, maybe he did actually have some self-restraint when it came to drinking, he knew when he should stop and he’d never drunk enough to leave him, well, needing medical help or anything, but generally when they decided to go drinking it ended up in them passing out and hung over the next morning, and there were probably only a few times that that didn’t happen.
He looked over at Hayden, nodding at what he’d said. “Which is exactly why I’m worried about what she’s going to do, if she does do something,” he said. He just hoped that he was wrong, and that she would be fine, or as fine as she could be, and not go and do anything stupid or anything of the sort. They had their spring break plans coming up and he had no idea what this news would mean for that, but they needed this holiday and he just hoped that it would all go smoothly. They didn’t need more stress, none of them did. They had all been through enough already without making it worse, not if they could help it – they already had one person trying to tear them all apart at the seams, they didn’t need to start doing it to themselves.
“I’d go if I could. There’s just too much I need to stay for here,” he said, rubbing his face with his hand and sighing once he’d finished talking. His future. Family business. Family. Friends. He didn’t even have to tell Hayden that he would keep an eye out for Ster for him, he probably knew that he would already. They had all grown up together, and maybe they weren’t related by blood but they may as well have been family, Ster was about just as much a younger sibling to him as Spence and Tiggy were. and you be the reason, i'll be the rhyme you needed something you could hold with your hands, something rebellious that you don't understand, something that you were sure we'd never remand, won't you please clue me in on the plan, because i won't let you burn out tonight, let's just stay here, don't breathe, ignite |

WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE - - - [/style] [style=font-family:tahoma; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:0px; color: #A2A2A2; text-align:justify]Hayden laughed a bit. They really did drink until they couldn't drink any more whenever they went out. Which did cause all parties in the morning to regret everything and say they weren't drinking again. Until that night when someone brought out the alcohol. 'True, true.' Even if they wanted to they couldn't avoid the horrible hangover the next morning because well none of them every really stopped before they got to that point.
'Ya. I get that. She'll probably just go talk to Beth. Maybe ignore you for a day or two. She can't do anything that bad.' Hayden just shrugged and took the last sip from the bottle they had been sharing. He really didn't think Lily would do something too crazy or anything. He figured the girl would just need her space and he knew Jake would be willing to give it to her. So really no big explosion was necessary there.
'Jake I know. And she knows that too. She'll come around.' Hayden clapped his hand on his friend's shoulder reassuringly. 'It's all going to be fine.' Hayden knew that things were the opposite of fine, but in situations like these it was just easier to say everything was going to be fine. But with the killer still at large Hayden knew that no one was truly safe and that nothing was truly fine. 'Let's head back to the dorms,' he said standing up and stretching slightly before starting to head to the exit.
