WE USED TO PLAY OUTSIDE WHEN WE WERE YOUNG AND FULL OF LIFE

The deaths and injuries involving everyone closest to her had poisoned the past nine months, and every time something had happened, she'd gotten shaken up badly. Usually, Thee could be put down as that type of girl who had a bit of a spark to her, a little something else. But every incident that had happened in Easton had chipped away at her, and each time she was left far less spirited than before. It had been like a domino line. Em, Abby, Moray, Neev and Brody had died; Bruce, Lily, Posy, Dom, Lyss, Ster, Hels, Hayden, Jake... they had all been injured - and that was just naming a few. Thea couldn't count how many times it had kept her awake at night. Just in her grade, Brody had died, and she'd watched from afar in agony as paraplegia consumed Sterling, one of her closest childhood friends. She'd had countless nightmares about her being next, or Spencer, or Aily... Tais, Cameron, Seamus, Beau, Ethan. She'd seen the running theme that the Killer had adopted, picking off younger siblings, and she was the youngest of the Waynes. That fact would just not stop preying on her mind.
Thea had lost count of how many times she'd relied on people to help reassure her. That was one of the worst parts to it, in her eyes. Thee was the type of person who just hated asking for help from other people when she was in a mess. But considering how many times she'd found herself in a mess these past months, she'd had to swallow her pride on many occasions. Of course, this whole process was made easier when she was able to talk things over with someone she trusted. Spencer had always been her rock. It was common knowledge that twins shared a bond, but the Wayne twins weren't the joined-at-the-hip type. Sure, they came and sought other one another as and whenever they felt like the other's company, but they worked perfectly well just getting on with their own lives fairly separate. And that was pretty fortunate, considering how strictly Easton Academy kept the girls from the boys and vice versa. But when the shit hit the fan, Thea had made a habit of running to Spence. Sure, she tried her best not to, to spread herself thinly across those she relied on so that no one saw too much of her, but he was a sort of exception to that.
Even after the death of the Killer, things had been a bit of a roller coaster for the Wayne family. First, they had had to deal with the fact that Jake had ended up being involved in the worst way with a murder - albeit a murder which they... well, truth be told they wanted. Then, Blondie and Jen had had their car crash. And to follow that, Jake and Blondie had graduated, despite it all. Thea had experienced such a broad range of emotions this year that she felt right now, in the calm after the storm, like she was reeling. Nowadays, she was just trying to get herself back into normality. So when Spence had texted her a few days ago suggesting a coffee, she texted back instantly (as she always did) with a yes. Spending time with either of her brothers was not something Thee did so frequently, but it was something normal to do most definitely. It wasn't that she and her brothers didn't get on, of course, it was just that they were all busy with their own lives and-- other things. Jake and Jen, Spencer and... Marisa. She hadn't even met her twin brother's girlfriend yet, but Thea just had this hunch that she wouldn't like her. And that hunch had only gotten worse during Spring Break, when Spence (and Jake and Blondie) had left her as the lone Wayne left in Easton, so that he could holiday with Marisa. And when Brody died and Thee was shaken up, it was Jake and Lily that came home early to comfort her.
Thea wasn't one for holding grudges but... she definitely still had qualms about all that, and pinned all the blame on Marisa. I suppose it was easier to do that to someone she'd never met than risking her relationship with her brother. Even if he sure didn't like how the two girls closest to him in his life didn't see eye to eye. But hey, at least it would just him and her today - Wayne twin time. This will be nice, Thea thought to herself as she pushed the door open to the restaurant. Maybe she would treat herself to a piece of cake - or maybe just share the slice with her bro. That was usually how it went, given how Thee was about her weight. Of course, being Waynes, they weren't doing coffee half-assed in some scrubby café, no. Spence told her he'd booked her the table tucked away in L'oie Chant and - sure enough, when she turned the final corner in the large restaurant, there he was. Looking a little peaky for some reason, but there all the same. "Hello, stranger!" Thea broke into a grin as she walked over to her brother and greeted him with a hug. She sat down in the cushioned seat opposite him, frowning a little at the additional spare seat between them. But she assumed one of the waiters would deal with that soon. In the meantime, she plopped her bag down on it and sighed, as though the walk across the floor had really taken it out of her. It was tough being a Legacy sometimes, you know. Thee took the menu from its standing position on the table and set it down flat so it wasn't in her line of sight, then asked eagerly with a smile across at Spencer, "How are you?"
