fears: death, failure, losing what he has
key traits: determined, stubborn, strong-headed, insensitive, self-involved, calm under stress & pressure, driven, argumentative, level-headed, cunning, manipulative, guarded, careful
personality:
Charlie is very cool, calm and collected in most situations. He finds it important to maintain a high degree of control over his emotions and actions, and the way he speaks and acts is very thought-out and deliberate. He is comfortable in his skin, confident and, clearly, not easily phased. He excels at remaining focused on his goals, tending to keep people at arm's length, but always within reach - he never knows when they might become useful to him. This desire to have others at his beck and call is the main reason for Charlie's friendly, relatively outgoing demeanour and, though he can be a very private person, he is also quite social. He wants to network, to be memorable; to form lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with his peers.
While, inwardly, Charlie is quite serious and single-minded, he has a tendency to look like he's always on the punchline of some unknown joke, and quick smiles and amused glances are hardly a rarity with him. In fact, his apparently careless, constantly entertained attitude can be downright infuriating when trying to argue with him, which happens often; Charlie is a fan of a good, solid debate, and likes to get involved in them at absolutely every opportunity. He is fascinated by differing opinions and the flow of conversation, interactions between people. He is always observing his surroundings, figuring out how he can make them work to his advantage.

history: (I apologize in advance for the length I got carried away I'm sorry)
Charlie's parents, both legacies, met while attending Easton in their youth. They were close friends throughout their years at the school, though they parted ways upon graduation; Adrian to attend university back in Canada, Delphine to return to Scotland, where she studied Law at the University of Edinburgh. The two kept in touch, and reunited when Adrian chose to complete his master's in petroleum geoscience at Edinburgh while Delphine completed her own, post-graduate studies. Despite their similarly hectic lives, they began dating and, despite a few, minor setbacks, ultimately managed to make things work. They stayed in Edinburgh for a time, Delphine working for a small law firm, Adrian aiding in research at the university. However, Adrian was hearing good things about the oil industry back in Canada, and eventually decided he would be able to make more use of his talents working Alberta. Delphine, feeling that Scotland was too small for her, readily agreed to return with him to his home country.
The money was good, and Adrian quickly climbed the corporate ladder while Delphine made the most of what was available to her in terms of practising law. She had had bigger goals when she was younger, but was not uncomfortable with the mellower path her life had taken. There was plenty of money, and plenty of time to travel and, when she became pregnant with Charlie, she realized she didn't really desire the fast-paced life she had envisioned for herself any more.
A couple years after Charlie was born, the family moved to Newfoundland; Adrian was offered a high-up job in the petroleum industry there, as he had been working on several projects related to the energy and resources available in the province and it was believed that, with the expertise of himself and his colleagues, many advancements could be made in the growing industry. Charlie grew up in a relatively modest home in St. John's, picking up hints of his mothers' Scottish brogue and the not-so-dissimilar Newfie twang. He and his brother were raised in a strict, but loving environment, and taught from an early age that hard work was the only way to get anywhere in life. Charlie was a fairly quiet, if charming child, though he and his brother often got up to harmless mischief when boredom overtook them.
Though St. John's was small, simple, quiet compared to some of the larger cities Charlie had seen in his family's travels, he always felt somehow attached to it, protective of it. He enjoyed Mrs. O'Leary at the bakery down the road, who had known him since he was a little boy running in to buy pastries with his allowance; Mr. Donahue at the grocery store, who always gave him a friendly wink when he came in to buy food to satisfy his mother's whims. Though his family was considerably more well-off than most of the people in the small, vibrant community, the Tremblay children were encouraged to interact with them. Adrian's infamous lectures always revolved around having the ability to connect with the common man, to make him feel as if his needs are of importance and to use him to your advantage, rather than shove him aside and become a tyrant to him. Like most things his father told him, Charlie took these talks to heart and rarely displayed any sense of superiority over the local folk.
One of the most important things Charlie took from his father was his boxing. When he was younger, he always felt that it was mainly in fun, but as he grew and became more serious about it he realized that even his father's early, playful introductions to the sport had been lessons in disguise. It is now one of his two, main passions; he enjoys the control of it, the thinking-on-your-feet and the deliberate movements required to win a fight... enjoys the exercise in will power required to bring yourself back from a particularly solid punch.
Charlie's other passion is still developing, stemming from the fact that he takes mainly after his mother, and was always very curious about her work and very exposed to it as he grew up (their parents were always very open with them about their jobs and lives, where possible, wanting to cultivate an understanding of the world and it workings). This, combined with the natural path of his interests and studies, has ultimately resulted in his desire to become a lawyer. Throughout his time at Easton, this goal has dominated his academic presence and choices. Alternatively, his social life has always been about establishing lasting connections with fellow, influential members of society, and he has done well both in friendships and in grades.
