She was his best friend, she had been since he had moved to America, and it had been so hard to leave for school here when he had done it. And especially right now, after she had told him everything that had happened with her parents, he hadn’t wanted to leave her when she obviously needed him. But he hadn’t had much choice in that matter, although he was fairly sure if he had told his parents he wanted to stay in Texas they would have let him, but he wanted to be here for his sisters too.
But he was back in Easton now, and he’d had to go back to the everyday routine he had developed here. Phone calls would have to suffice, at least until he was back in Texas again, which is what he thought about as he trudged back to his locker after he had finished PE, his last class for the day, to get his things before he went back to his dorm. At least the school year was coming to an end, which meant that he got to go back there for a bit longer, although he was fairly sure that his parents were planning to head back over to England for a couple of weeks at least to visit family now that they were out of school for the summer, but it was longer than a few days there at least.
Reaching his locker, he opened it up, pulling out everything that he had placed in it that he would need for tonight, stifling a yawn as he did so. At least he didn’t have any practices on this afternoon… not that he could recall, anyway, and it was good to have at least one day off, to catch up on homework, or sleep, or even just to relax for an afternoon. At least he wasn’t behind on schoolwork to begin with either, which was helpful. - - - - - - - - - - well, i'm not sure what this is gonna be, but with my eyes closed all i see is the skyline, through the window, the moon above you and the streets below, hold my breath as you're moving in, taste your lips and feel your skin, when the time comes, baby don't run, just kiss me slowly |

If there was one thing that Libby had never particularly enjoyed it was school. She loved the social interaction before class, at lunch, and after class, but the actual school part was the worst. It was so boring and... tame. Libby had never been tame. Even as a child she was the one who was always getting herself into trouble running about when she should have been sitting still. She would have much rather been jumping off of whatever she could climb onto than sit still and learn things. It wasn't that she didn't have the attention span for school or the intelligence to make it in school, she just didn't like it. She was a bit of a dare-devil and it drove her parents absolutely crazy. She was energetic and enthusiastic about everything, but school just made her want to fall asleep.
When she met James that changed. School suddenly became worth it if it meant she got to hang out with him more, even if it was just sitting next to him while some boring teacher babbled on about stuff she didn't care about. James was her best friend, and she loved spending time with him. When high school hit, that changed again. James got into the rather elite Easton Academy, and before she knew it, he had headed off to what might as well have been the other side of the country from Addison, and she was left there to suffer through high school on her own. Once again school became something she just had to get through on a day to day basis. She had to settle for only seeing James on holidays when he got to come home and during the summer. She'd always just figured that a little was better than none at all.
His most recent visit changed her mind. She needed to be near her best friend, especially right now. So she used her parents guilt and talked them into letting her apply to go to the same school. Normally they didn't let students in part way through, but Libby's parents were plenty wealthy enough so she was not turned away. She hadn't said a word about coming to Easton to James, she wanted it to be a surprise, and when she entered the hallway to the boys' classrooms and saw James at his locker, she knew that he didn't have a clue. She'd already settled into her room and gotten Hooligan settled in at the barn, so all that was left to do was to greet her best friend in the whole world.
She waited until he was preoccupied with his locker to pounce on him... and by pounce I really mean she pretty much did a flying tackle. "JAMES!" she squealed quite loudly as she threw her arms around James, her body colliding with his rather forcefully. Being reunited with her best friend was quite possibly the best feeling in the world right now.

He didn’t even see her flying at him from the corner of his eye until it was almost too late, just a tiny blur caught before he felt a body collide with his, arms wrapping tightly around him as he stumbled a few steps, managing to catch himself before he ended up completely falling over from the sheer force of the impact and not having braced himself for it before she had come into contact with him.
He realised he had dropped everything that he had been carrying, hearing it all hit the floor with a few thuds and clatters, but that was really just a distant thought, not once he realised he recognised the voice of the person who had just almost tackled him in the hallway. A voice he certainly hadn’t expected to hear in person for a while, not until the next time he went back to Texas anyway, and especially not in Easton, but naturally he was extremely happy to hear his best friend’s voice nonetheless, let alone knowing that she was right here.
He wrapped his arms around her once he had managed to steady himself again, oblivious to any potential stares that they were probably getting right now – half because there was a girl in the boy’s side of the school, in the corridors of the classrooms, when there wasn’t supposed to be, and the fact that this random girl had just flown in and attack hugged someone – picking her up and hugging her tightly to him, a wide grin spreading across his face. “Bloody hell, you almost gave me a heart attack… what are you doing here?” he said, pulling back a tiny little bit so he could look at her face, but not letting go of her, obviously glad that she was here but he was naturally surprised over the fact that she was there in the first place, since he’d had no idea that she was even coming. but with my eyes closed all i see is the skyline, through the window, the moon above you and the streets below, hold my breath as you're moving in, taste your lips and feel your skin, when the time comes, baby don't run, just kiss me slowly, stay with me, baby stay with me, tonight don't leave me alone |

Libby had never really been as happy as when she was around James. Most girls had girl friends that they talked to about everything, Libby had James. She loved him because whenever she had a "girl moment" he didn't get all caught up in whatever emotional drama she was going on about and always set her straight again. Libby was the kind of girl who flew by the seat of her pants and would just react immediately to things that went on around her. James was the level-headed one who made her see the other side of the story and made her stop to think about it before she went and did something crazy, which was easier said than done, considering crazy should have been her middle name. He was the ying to her yang, that was why she was the most content when he was around.
She held on to James tightly as all of the things he'd been holding clattered to the floor, not really bothered at all by all of the stares she was getting. There were very few rules which Libby actually followed, and those tended to only be barn rules. Girls weren't allowed in the boys' corridors? What were they going to do about it? Kick her out? Highly unlikely. Libby had always figured that unlesss there were going to be dire consequences for the things that she did that were against the rules there was no need to really follow them. If she hadn't been so terrified of her trainer kicking her out of the barn she would most likely not follow barn rules either. People would probably get very used to seeing Libby in places that she should not have been, and it didn't take her long to get started on that.
"I go here now!" She said excitedly, "Well I mean not here, obviously because this is the boys' school... but I decided life sucked without my best friend so, here I am!" Libby was quite proud that she had managed to not tell James for so long about her going here. She loved surprises, but she almost always ruined them... like James' surprise birthday party in 7th grade... she'd ruined that one royally. This was the hardest surprise ever to keep, but she'd done it. "I didn't tell you because I wanted to surprise you and I think I actually managed to accomplish that." She was practically beaming and talking at about a million words a minute, a bad habit she'd developed when she got excited. James was used to it by now though. Most people couldn't understand her when she got to talking this quickly, but he'd heard it enough times that he probably hardly even noticed anymore.

Not that it hadn’t been fine before she’d randomly showed up here, but… when you were best friends with someone, especially when you were as close as he and Libby were, and they were so far away, it just didn’t feel right. They might have Skyped each other every chance that they got, called each other all the time and texted and everything, but it wasn’t the same as being there with each other. He still couldn’t quite believe that she was actually here though, and it would probably take a little while to fully sink in.
He couldn’t stop grinning as he listened to her babble on in his ear, still not letting go of her in the tight embrace they were in, neither of which he doubted was going to stop any time soon. “I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve missed you,” he said, squeezing her just a little bit tighter – he may have only seen her not that long ago, actually, but it didn’t mean that he hadn’t missed her any less since they’d left Texas again to go back to school. He was surprised that she had even managed to keep it a secret, he knew her well enough to know that she had a bit of trouble with these sorts of surprises, not that she ever meant to give it away on purpose, of course, but she did tend to let it slip.
“This is definitely the best surprise I’ve ever had,” he told her, pulling back a little bit so he could look at her properly. It was about then he remembered that they were standing in the middle of the hallway, his things still scattered on the floor around them, and it was probably only a matter of time before a teacher came along and saw them there, and he wasn’t quite sure how well that would go down, since he’d never actually gotten into trouble here before – not even when he’d had that run in with Bruce, nothing had been done about that but he doubted it would have anyway, considering Bruce was a Legacy, and, well, he knew enough to know that was how things worked around here.
“Come on, let’s get out of here and go somewhere it’ll be easier to talk,” he said, letting go of her just so he could pick up his things again and they could leave, although letting go of her was a reluctant thing. but with my eyes closed all i see is the skyline, through the window, the moon above you and the streets below, hold my breath as you're moving in, taste your lips and feel your skin, when the time comes, baby don't run, just kiss me slowly, stay with me, baby stay with me, tonight don't leave me alone |
